I haven't been too good at keeping the information I put on the web page. I figured some people might actually like to look at the history. Here's what I was able scrounge up from the past.

After Four Months of Work (Posted October 28, 2001)
It has been about four months since I last put any update here, so I figured I would this before too much more time passed by.  I have now been working at Microsoft in the Visual C++ team. While I started out thinking I would be working on language design, I actually have been working on the backend of the compiler where all the optimization and low level stuff goes on. When I started, I was warned that this would be a difficult team to work with. Yet, now that I can reflect on the last four months, I am very happy with how things have turned out. This is a wonderful team.

Perhaps the best part of working with this particular group within Visual C++ is the ability to interact with so many other groups at Microsoft. I have in some way helped or interacted with XBox, Office, eBooks, Windows (which we still call NT), and so many more. I also get to interact with architects and really smart people from both AMD and Intel. My manager called this team, "The crossroads of Microsoft." This really is true.

In other news, I bought a house at the beginning of August. It has been an exciting project. In the first few weeks, I spent most of my time stripping wallpaper and tearing down walls. It is amazing how much of an improvement that was. I am now spending a good amount of time painting and making the place brighter. I don't have a lawnmower, so the grass out in the yard is starting to look like a jungle. But now that the leaves are falling off the trees, it only looks bad for the few hours after I rake up all the leaves.

Finishing College (Posted June 2001)
Officially, I have just finished college and my current plans are to work for Microsoft as a "language lawyer."  I will be working in the Visual C++ team.  After working on JMatch and JLTools with Professor Myers, I am even more certain that programming language design is what I want to do.  I will begin working at Microsoft in late June.

I just finished working on the CS312 course staff.  This has been one of the central focal points of my time at Cornell.  I have been with CS312 (and CS212 before that) for six semesters in total.  Four of those semesters have been with Professor Morrisett, who I credit with starting me out on the path of programming languages.  One of the semesters was with Professor Kozen, who was simply one of the best professors around.  I have to say that I feel fortunate to know so many great professors!

Back at Cornell (Posted Spring 2000)
This semester is certainly keeping me busy. Not only am I living off campus for the first time, but I'm returning from Microsoft. In my free time (whatever that is), I TA for the infamous CS212. I also conduct tours of the Engineering Quad with the student group known as Engineering Ambassadors. I'll be taking the following:

At Microsoft (Posted Fall 1999)
I am currently interning at Microsoft, a truly remarkable place. Regardless of what some outsiders may say, people at Microsoft have the right ideals for changing the world. That's something that I'm very proud to be a part of, even in the midst of the many legal attacks on Microsoft. At Microsoft, I work on Outlook. It's a good thing that I'm not being paid by the hour, since most people consider me a workaholic.  What can I say, I really love what I do.  And that makes Microsoft a perfect environment for me.
